 Professional CertificationsHiawatha Franks possesses nearly two decades of workers’ compensation insurance experience and is currently the Director of Small Commercial Programs at The Hartford.  He continuously refines his insurance industry skills and knowledge by obtaining professional certifications from the American Institute for Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters (The Institutes).

The Institutes has been serving the insurance industry for more than 100 years. The organization provides certifications for insurance professionals by emphasizing technical content, recognized credentials, authoritative research, high quality, and exceptional service. Hiawatha Franks has earned the following professional certifications from this organization:

Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU)

The CPCU is a professional designation in property-casualty insurance and risk management held by roughly 5% of individuals employed in the United States insurance industry.  Individuals who complete this program through The Institutes must take four foundation courses, three courses in the personal or commercial line concentrations, and one elective. Course topics include “Foundations of Risk Management and Insurance,” “Insurance Operations,” and “Commercial Liability Risk Management and Insurance.”

Associate in Risk Management (ARM)

The ARM program is the premier designation for risk management professionals and is designed to help individuals assess and respond to the risks a company faces. Course topics at The Institutes are “Risk Management Principles and Practices,” “Risk Assessment and Treatment,” “Risk Financing,” “Risk Management for Public Entities,” and “Enterprise Wide Risk Management.”

Associate in Insurance Services (AIS)

The AIS program was created specifically for insurance personnel and covers continuous improvement principles for helping attract new clients while maintaining current customers. The Institutes allows students to customize the program to meet their specific technical insurance knowledge needs and is recommended for claims adjusters, agents/brokers, agency principals, underwriters, administrative staff, call center personnel, and customer service representatives.

Hiawatha Franks owns CPCU, ARM, and AIS certifications and is also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi. Through this fraternity, he has taken part in a number of community service projects alongside fellow fraternity members.
