Hiawatha Franks is currently the Director of Small Commercial Programs at The Hartford. This recent position is the latest in an insurance career that has spanned nearly two decades. He credits his success with a world-class educational background that began when he enrolled at Texas State University, San Marcos in 1988.

Texas State University, San Marcos is a public university founded in 1899 and renamed in 2003. As of 2012, the university had a combined 34,229 students enrolled in its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The school’s 97 bachelor programs are offered through ten academic colleges, including the McCoy College of Business Administration. The school’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program includes majors in Accounting, Finance, Computer Information Systems, Marketing, and Business Management. In 1989, Hiawatha Franks started his coursework at Southwest Texas State University, which would later be renamed Texas State University, San Marcos. He graduated in 1992 with his BBA and a concentration in Business Management. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he was inducted into Kappa Alpha Psi and performed many community service activities with his brothers. After building a successful career in the insurance industry, Hiawatha Franks set out to earn a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Walden University in 2011.

Hiawatha Franks began working on his MBA in 2011 after a lengthy career in the insurance industry specializing in workers’ compensation claims. He graduated in 2013 with a concentration in Risk Management, and is currently using what he learned through his coursework as the Director of Small Commercial Programs at The Hartford.
